Technician 5th Grade Vearl Clayton Kerfoot, born 7 Aug 1914, was the son of David Wales Kerfoot and Ada Augusts (Hughes) Kerfoot of Alva, Woods County, Oklahoma. Alva is just south of the Kansas state line 112 miles southwest of Wichita.

In the 1920 census 5-year-old Vearl is living with his parents, half siblings Hazel 17, and Floyd 14, and siblings Glenn 10, David 7, Virgil 4, and Leeta 1, in rural Elberta Township of Woods County, OK. His father is farming.

In the 1930 census 16-year-old Vearl is living with his parents and siblings Glenn 20, David 18, Virgil 14, Leta 12, and Verda 8, in rural Galena, still in Woods County, OK. His father is still farming.

In the 1940 census 25-year-old Vearl is living with his parents and brother Virgil 23 in rural Hopeton, still in Woods County, OK. Vearl and Virgil are farm laborers.
Vearl enlisted 9 oct 1941 in Oklahoma City. He’d had a grammar school education and was single without dependents. His civil occupation was general farm hand.

The NARA WWII casualty listings by state and county for Oklahoma show Kerfoot, Vearl C, Tech 5 from Woods County as killed in action 15 Apr 1945. On 15 Apr 1945 all three battalions of the 253rd IR were lined up abreast moving southeast toward Kesselfeld on their left Eschelbach in the middle and Michelbach on their right so we can assume he was killed near either Kesselfeld, Eschelbach or Michelbach. Eschelbach is 20 miles east of Heilbronn.
