The son of Frank Elmer Brown and Ada Augusta Hughes, Ralph married Katherine Mathilda "Kate" Velten on 08 Jan 1917 in Decatur, Macon County, Illinois. They were the parents of at least 5 children.

Ralph was the first Fire Chief of the West Overland Fire Department in Overland, St. Louis County, Missouri. He was a member of the Missouri Fire Fighters Association.

Ralph was hospitalized for 9 days at Christian Hospital due to problems with an ulcer. He also suffered from diabetes. He died there at the age of 66 years, 9 months and 18 days when the ulcer hemorrhaged.

He was survived by his wife, Kate; 1 daughter, Lucille Deering; 3 sons, Ralph Brown, Jr., Charles Brown and Jerry Brown; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many extended family members.

Ralph was preceded in death by his mother and father; and an infant daughter, Catherine Lee Brown.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. on the afternoon of 22 Aug 1963 at Collier's Funeral Home on St. Charles Rock Road in St. Ann, Missouri.

Ralph's wife, Kate, passed away in 1964 and was buried next to him.
