Edith Mae Jackson Hickner, 91, Lafayette, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at St. Elizabeth Center.
She was born Jan. 4, 1911, in Elwood.
She attended Elwood High school. She later graduated from Modern Business College in Anderson.
She married Jerome Anthony Hickner on Oct. 19, 1933, in St. Joseph's Church Elwood. He died Dec. 9, 1999.
She worked for Dehorty Insurance Co. for five years. She and her husband also ran a Vapo Bath business in Elwood for several years. They moved to Lafayette in 1955.
She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and the . She was a journalist and pianist and enjoyed music sewing genealogy and collecting Post cards.
Surviving are two daughters, Miriam Walters (husband Joseph) of West Lafayette, and Margaret Cannon (husband John) of Gales Ferry, Conn., four sons, Jerry Hickner (wife Betty) of Monticello, Bernie Hickner, and Stephen Hickner (wife Katie) of West Lafayette, and Edward Hickner (wife Michelle) of Lafayette, a sister, Jane Anne Preston, of Elwood, and a brother, James Jackson (wife Margaret) of Elwood, 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two children, Mary Hicker and Phillip Hickner, one sister, three brothers, and two great grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Richards Loy and Clapper funeral home, Lafayette, with a Rosary service beginning at 4 . A funeral mass will be held Monday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Father Dan Garland officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's cemetery in Elwood. Memorials may be made to St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
