Victoria Jane Dehart was born on 3 Feb 1867 in Macon County, NC, (Her headstone says birth year is 1866, but she is documented in the census stating her birth as Feb 1867. Five other census with age statements agree with 1867 birth date. Also, birth date is given in 1910 census as 1867.) She is the daughter of John Patton Dehart and Samantha E. Taylor.

Victoria didn't have an easy life. After her mother divorced her father in 1883, Victoria, her mother Samantha, and sister Belzorrah, fended for themselves.

In 1884, she married Phillip Abraham Jenkins in Stecoah, Graham County, NC. She quickly had 6 children, Laura Magnolia "Maggie", John Decatur "Dee", Charles "Charlie" Grover, Cora Azallea, Hester Edzenia and Ineze Louisa.

Tragedy struck on April 29,1900, when Victoria was pregnant with her 7th child, Earie Elva. Her husband, Abey, was shot and killed on Panther Creek. There was a lengthy trial in the Superior Court of Graham County in May of 1900. Jack and Andrew Carver were found guilty of murder and sentenced to 25 years in prison.

In the 1900 US Federal Census, Victoria is listed as head of the house living in Stecoah Township, a widow with 6 children. She also lived with her son Dee Dehart and his wife Hattie for awhile. At some point, Dee & Hattie gave her their house, where she lived for several years.

In 1910 Census, she is listed as head of the house with 4 children, farming, living in Tuskeegee. At some point, Victoria also operated a grist mill for income. In her later years, she lived with her daughter, Inez Stiles and husband Charlie, and family in Cheoah District, Graham County.

She died of pneumonia in May, 1932 at age 65 and is buried in Old Mother Cemetery, Robbinsville, NC.
