John Allen Beauregard DeHart was born April 9, 1862 in Hightower area of Macon (now Sawin) County, the son of John Patton DeHart and Mary Rachel Thomasson.

In September 1880 in Swain County, NC, he married Lovada Jane Forrister, the daughter of James Martin Forrister and Martha Ann Mason Forrister.

Lovada Jane died April 20, 1897.
