Barbara Cushing Weadock of Miami, the first woman to serve as an officer in the U.S. Merchant Marine and a three-week Miami resident, formerly of the Crestwwod Apts. in Middletown, N.Y., died Wednesday, July 9. 1986 at North Side Hospital, Miami after a short illness. She was 79. The daughter of the late Christopher and Ella Morse Cushing, she was born Dec. 5, 1906 in the town of Wawayanda, N.Y.. She was the widow of Edward Weadock. Survivors include two sisters, Isabelle Clifford and Esther Purgatoria both of New Hampton, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren. Cremation will take place and her ashes will be scattered at sea.
