Son of James William Wilson and Delilah Shippe.

Husband of Elizabeth Ann Duncan 12/1832 - 4/1888.

Jonathan Anderson Wilson (the Elder as he has a nephew with the same name) migrated from Kentucky with his parents to Jackson County, Alabama. In 1850 he married Elizabeth Ann Duncan who was from Virginia. The Duncan's and the Wilson's were part Cherokee. Elizabeth was a devout Christian and helped the community as a mid-wife. The family migrated to Arkansas, first to Clarke County where three of their children were born, then to Polk County just before the beginning of the Civil War. Jonathan served in Bryant's Arkansas Battalion under Captain J.W. Morton and emerged from the war unharmed. In the 1880's he moved his family to a farm near Chisholmville in Logan County by ox-team, driving their livestock before them. It was the task of their daughter, Matilda Catherine Wilson, to drive the geese behind the wagons, while walking across two and one-half counties. They were welcomed to their new home by one of the coldest blizzards on record for that area. Jonathan lost a leg in a sawmill accident and thereafter resorted to using a wooden leg and sometimes crutches. The loss of his leg did not appear to slow him down much as he walked along and chopped cotton and corn with the best two legged men.
