Levi was the son of a farmer, Simpson McEnville Hagood, and Elizabeth Garrison Hagood, who are buried at Rest Haven cemetery in Alpharetta.
Levi married his second cousin Victoria Catherine Garrison, daughter of Rev. Thomas Wesley Garrison. Rev. Garrison was the founding pastor of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Cobb County, Georgia. Late in life, he deeded the 4.5 acres needed to begin the church and school.
Levi served as a Confederate private in Company B of the 38th Georgia Infantry. He was made Pvt. 10/6/1861. He was wounded at 2d Manassas, Va. on 8/28/1862. He was captured at Chester Station, Va. 4/3/1865. He was released at Hart's Island, N.Y. on 6/15/1865.
This picture appears to be in his uniform. Afterward, he worked the remainder of his career farming in the Post Oak area of Cobb County, Georgia, near the farm of his brother William and other relatives.
