Berne Man Dies at Adams County Hospital
John H. Habegger, 74, of North Jefferson Street, died at 12:30 this afternoon at the Adams County Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since July 21. He had been in failing health for several years and his condition became more serious recently with a heart ailment. He suffered a severe stroke late Tuesday and lapsed into a coma.
Mr. Habegger was a retired farmer and also was employed at the Berne Furniture Company for a number of years. He and his family lived on a farm south of the Winchester Church and School for many years before moving to Berne.
Mr. Habegger owned his own home on North Jefferson Street and moved back into it a few months ago after living for several years with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Pharr at Linn Grove.
He was born in Wabash Township September 7, 1894, a son of Jacob and Catherine Nussbaum Habegger. He was married to Rebecca M. Schwartz April 18, 1918. She preceded in death on August 20, 1964.
Surviving Mr. Habegger are five daughters, Mrs. Howard (Rufine) Pharr, Linn Grove; Mrs. Loris (Irene) Phillips, Mrs. Roger (Corrine) Moser, Mrs. Kenneth (Helen) Augsburger and Mrs. Delmar (Dessie) Neuenschwander, all of Berne; a son, Milton Habegger, Fort Wayne; a brother, Amos H. Habegger, R.R. 1 Berne; and a sister, Miss Barbara Habegger, who resides at Swiss Village west of Berne. There are 20 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A daughter, Aldine, died when a young child, choking to death on a peanut.
Mr. Habegger was a member of the First Missionary Church here.
The body is at the Yager Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements were not complete at press time.
