MILTON J. HABEGGER
MILTON J. HABEGGER, "MILT", 78, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born at home on Dec. 7, 1930 in Adams County, the son of John and Rebecca (Schwartz) Habegger. Milt was a 1949 graduate of Monroe High School and a 1958 graduate of Ball State University. He served two years in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1952 to 1954. He taught in the Fort Wayne Community Schools from 1958 to 1988 at Riverside Elementary, Fairfield Middle School and Ben Geyer Middle School. In his retirement, he continued to teach as a substitute at the high school level. Milt was a longtime member of Harvester Missionary Church, where he served as an adult Sunday School teacher, Church Board Chairman and an organizer of senior activities. He also served as Chairman of Men's Ministries of the Missionary Church Central District. Milt was a tremendous athlete, having played basketball at Monroe High School and basketball and baseball while in Military Service. He enjoyed watching and supporting his children and grandchildren in all of their activities. He was an avid sports fan who supported Indiana collegiate and professional teams and the Chicago Cubs. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pauline (Nussbaum); sons, Todd (Marti) of Gurnee, Ill. and Greg (Cathy) of Fishers, Ind.; daughters, Jana (Lynn) Dettmer of Ossian and Jill (Brad) Pepple of Leo; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Helen Augsburger of Muncie, Corrine Moser and Dessie Neuenschwander, both of Berne. He was preceded in death by his parents;, three sisters, Rufine Pharr, Aldine Habegger and Irene Phillips; son, Gil Habegger; grandson, Will Habegger; and great-grandson, John Walberg. Public Memorial service is 4 p.m. Monday at Harvester Missionary Church, 3331 Harvester Avenue, with calling one hour prior at the church. Rev. David Binkley officiating. Calling also from 2 to 5 & 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at D.O. McComb & Sons, Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road. Private family Graveside service is Monday at MRE Cemetery in Berne.
