Benjamin Hoke Price My Uncle

Uncle Bennie was born on September 3, 1904 to William Ayers and Carrie Geanette Tharp Price. He was born in Brunswick County, NC [probably at home in Smithville Township]. He completed 8 years of elementary school. On February 8, 1930, he married Lenora Hazel McKeithen, a high school graduate, in Southport, Brunswick, NC. They were married by Reverend W. C. Wescott. Aunt Hazel is the daughter of Warren Holland and Nora Evans MCKeithan. She was born on January 29, 1909 in Brunswick County, NC.

Uncle Bennie was a farmer and a Baptist Minister. He was the minister of Bethel Baptist Church in the 1940’s and 1950’s. Uncle Bennie and Aunt Hazel had three children; Barbara Ann Price, James Cowell Price, and Patricia Hazel Price. In 1942, Uncle Bennie was described in his draft registration as being 5 foot 7 inches tall, weighed 130 pounds, had blue eyes, brown hair and a ruddy complexion.

Later in life, Uncle Bennie and Aunt Hazel moved to Beaufort, Carteret, NC were Uncle Bennie was employed as a Baptist Minister. Aunt Hazel died in Beaufort on May 18, 1972. She is buried in the Carteret Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Beaufort. Uncle Bennie died on October 24, 1984 and is buried next to Aunt Hazel in the Carteret Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
