Services for John Alexander Steadham, 102, of Crosbyton were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Mar. 12, 1990, in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Lester B. Griffin, pastor, officiating.
Masonic graveside services followed in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home.

He died at 1:45 a.m. Friday in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital after an illness.

Mr. Steadham was born Mar. 22, 1887, in Young County. He married Rozzie Lee Pardue on Dec. 1, 1907, in Young County. She preceded him in death Dec. 16, 1971. He moved to the Plains (Leatherwood Community) in Crosby County 1921 from Young County. He then moved to a farm south of Crosbyton in 1937 and had lived in Crosbyton since 1948. He was a farmer and in 1951 became tax assessor-collector for the Crosbyton Independent School District where he served for 14 1/2 years before his second retirement at age 78. He was a 70 year member of Crosbyton´s Masonic Lodge No. 120 and served as Past Master of the Lodge. He also was a member and past worthy patron of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include two sons, Earl of Anaheim, CA; and J.B. of Roy, WA; four daughters, Beatrice Cotner of Garland and Annie Pearl Miller, Jewell Leatherwood and Ina Lee Finch, all of Crosbyton; a sister, Maggie Lemley of Hedley; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Grandsons were pallbearers.
