PLAINVIEW - Services for Memphis Willis will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Hopewell Baptist Church with the Revs. Alfred Kennedy and Carroll Teal officiating. Burial will be in Willis Flat Cemetery under direction of White Oaks, Oakdale. Willis, 74, of Plainview died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, in Oakdale Community Hospital. He was a resident of Plainview and a member of Hopewell Baptist church. He was retired from the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Department with 24 years service as a deputy and constable. He also had 24 years of service with the Rapides Parish School Board as bus driver. He was a former owner/operator of Willis Grocery in Plainview and a contracting stump hauler for Newport. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Getry Lee Stafford and Renae Willis and one brother, Vernon Willis. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Willis of Plainview four sons, Memphis Willis Jr. of Gonzales, and the Rev. Michael Willis, Arnold Willis and Stafford Willis, all of Glenmora two daughters, Geraldine Johnson of Plainview and Dorothy Lynn Johnson of Oakdale two brothers, Mason Willis and Dan Willis, both of Plainview five sisters, Minnie Maricle, Sara Jane McDaniel, Sara Ann McDaniel, Margaret Strother and Mae Strother , all of Plainview 21 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Gerald Johnson, John Johnson, Memphis Johnson, Michael Willis, Robbie Willis and Romelzy Willis.
