Patrick Darrow, one of the old settlers of this community, died Sunday, April 10, 1904 at his farm residence in Yellowstone after an illness of three weeks with typhoid pneumonia. The deceased was born in County Antrim, Ireland, June 9th, 1829 and emigrated to this country with his parents when quite young. They first resided in Pennsylvania, then in Illinois and in 1847 came to Yellowstone, settling on the farm, a part of which Mr. Darrow owned at the time of his death.
In 1852 he was united in marriage to Margaret McKillip, who died two years ago. Four children. Mrs. Margaret Rogers, Darlington, Mrs. James Hughes, Fayette, Mrs. Mary Whalen and Frank Darrow of Yellowstone survive him.
Mr. Darrow was one of those strudy pioneers who came into this country, when it was a wilderness, with an ox team and endured all the hardships of a new settler and became so accustomed to the privations of pioneer life, that he was of the opinion that many things considered necessities in this generation were superfulous. We have seen him come to town many times this last winter without an overcoat.
He will be greatly missed by a large circle of friends whom he has associated with and befriended for half a century. Many times when friends of his have had trouble, he has stepped in and made peace. His honesty and integrity was beyond reproach and he had the respect and confidence of all.
The funeral was held at the Catholic church in Yellowstone, Tuesday, April 12th, Rev. Father Rosen conducting the services. The remains were interred in the adjoining cemetery.
