Funeral services for Alfred R. Bennett, 73-year-old Dumas, Texas resident, were held Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 2:30 p.m. in the Alfalfa Baptist Church of Alfalfa, with Rev. Dean Rainwater, minister, officiating. Burial was in the Alfalfa Cemetery under direction of the R.L. Lockstone Funeral Home, Inc., of Weatherford.
Mr. Bennett was born on February 2, 1905 northwest of Alfalfa and grew up in that area. He attended and graduated from Carnegie High School. He later attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he received a BS Degree and later Oklahoma State University where he received a Master Degree in Education.
On May 20, 1930, he married Sally Rue Passmore near Weatherford. After his marriage he taught at Cobb Creek School in Washita, Cowden, Alden and Carnegie and for twelve years in Vernon, Texas, retiring in 1968.
Mr. Bennett passed away very unexpectedly Sunday afternoon in Salt Lake City, Utah while visiting his son. A member of the Dumas, Texas First Baptist Church, Mr. Bennett served as a deacon there. Survivors include: his widow, Sally Rue Bennett, Dumas, Texas; one daughter, Mrs. Jack (Shirley) Thornton Dumas Texas; one son, Royce Bennett Salt Lake City, Utah; four grandchildren; six brothers, George W. Bennett, Carnegie; Ralph 0. Bennett, Oklahoma City, Leo W. Bennett, Tucumcari, New Mexico; Raymond Bennett, Bakersfield, California, Eugene B. Bennett, Cyril, and Orville R. Bennett, Amarillo, Texas; and two sisters; Mrs. Henry (Floy) Pitt, Hydro, and Mrs. George (Verna) Tully, Carnegie.
