Rev. Doug Passmore, Baptist minister from Lawton, will officiate with burial in the Alfalfa Cemetery under direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bennett died Thursday, Feb. 19, at St. Anthony Hospital in Amarillo, Texas, following a four-week illness.
She was born Apr. 15, 1912, at Snowball in Searcy County, Arkansas. In 1924 the family moved to a farm northwest of Carnegie, where she attended the Union Corner rural school.
After returning to Arkansas for one year, the family came back to Caddo County to stay.
The former Sally Passmore was married May 20, 1930, to Alfred Ray Bennett near Weatherford. He was a teacher, so the family made several moves while he taught at Alfalfa, Alden and Carnegie. They later lived for 12 years at Vernon, Texas, before retiring in 1972 at Dumas, Texas.
Mr. Bennett died in 1978, his wife continuing to reside at Dumas where she was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Thornton of Dumas; one son, Royce Bennett, Sandy, Utah; one sister, Leonard Bond, Colony; one brother, Page Passmore, Carnegie; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
[Corrections from daughter Shirley Thornton: Alfred never taught at Alfalfa. He taught at several one-room schools before he taught at Oney, OK; Cowden, OK; Alden, OK; Carnegie, OK; and Vernon, TX, where he retired in 1970 and moved to Dumas, TX in 1972. Doug Passmore was Rue's great-nephew.]
