Walker's father Joseph Hubbard (1781-1819) married his mother Diana Durrett in 1804. She later married to John O. Walden in 1820 and died in Menard Co., IL after 1860. Joseph and Diana's children were: Mary (wife of Charles M. Dickerson and Samuel Tandy Moore), Carter A. (husband of Martha Ann Breeding), Sarah Frances (wife of William David Bailey), Emily (wife of Dandridge Poor), Elizabeth (wife of Larkin Durrett and Rowland Mardis), and Walker Taliaferro (husband of Rachel Watson).
Children of Walker's brother Carter Hubbard: Sarah C., Jane B. (wife of William N. Breeding), Martha Matilda (wife of Aylett Buckner), and Nancy Carter (wife of James David Crabtree and William Wells).
The following story is from Morgan is Coming: Confederate Raiders in the Heartland of Kentucky by Betty J. Gorin:
"Walker T. Hubbard was a loyal citizen-farmer living in a sizable log house, with a son serving in the Union army. One of his close neighbors, James Caldwell, a slave holder living in a two-story Greek revival home just across the field, made no secret of his Southern sympathies.
"A squad of Federal soldiers came down the Lone Valley Road and told Hubbard that they were on their way to arrest Caldwell. Hubbard made a deal with the officer in charge that, when the corn was ripe, later in the year, he could bring his men and horses back and have all the corn they needed in return for not bothering his good friend and neighbor. The deal was struck, and Caldwell escaped arrest. Other Southern sympathizers in Kentucky were not as fortunate as Caldwell."
