Miss Noma Darnell, 72, a resident of Freeport, Wirt County, died at her home at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10. She had been ill since January. She was born at Newark, Wirt County, Feb. 14, 1890, the daughter of Floyd and Rosalie Parsons Darnell. Miss Darnell, a lifelong resident of Wirt County, was a member of the Freeport Presbyterian Church. She was an accomplished musician and a long time music leader of the area. Miss Darnell, assisted by her surviving sister, Agnes, had been a long-time popular correspondent for Freeport area news sent to the Wirt County Journal. The Rev. Vairl C. Winter and the Rev. Bruce Wood conducted funeral services Saturday afternoon at the Leavitt Funeral Home. Interment was in the Fought Cemetery.
