"Mr. Daniel Beers, aged 73 years, an old resident of East Rockford, and uncle to Ex-Mayor Rhoades, died this morning at his residence on Second street, of heart disease, after a lingering illness. Deceased was one of the earliest residents of this city, and was one of five persons to organize the first M.E. church society, in this county, which meeting took place at the house of Henry Enoch, father of A.I. and H.R. Enoch, in August, 1836. Deceased was one of the most faithful and consistent members of the M.E. church, all through life, and a regular attendant upon its ordinances. He died full of faith in a glorius immortality. The funeral will take place on Monday afternoon, at one o'clock, from his late residence on North Second street. Services at the Centennial M.E. church, at half-past one o'clock."
