George Smith, Wabash Brakeman, dies at 52
George J Smith, 52, Wabash Railroad brakeman, of 425 N Calhoun St, died at 1:15am yesterday in Wabash Employes Hospital where he had been take 35 minutes earlier.
Mr. Smith had lived in Decatur 12 years, coming here from Springfield. He had been employed by the Wabash Railroad 15 years and was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, the Benefit Assn. of Railway Employes and the Moose Lodge.
He was born in Mount Vernon April 25, 1905 and was married to Alice M Eddy in Springfield Jan. 3, 1931.
He leaves his wife, a son, Edward L., with the Navy stationed at Newport, R.I.; three daughters, Mrs. Verna Kramer, Mrs. Doris Petro and Miss Carol Jean, all of Decatur; brothers, Virgil of Carmi and Claude of Mount Carroll; sisters, Mrs. Janie Flanagan, Springfield, Mrs. Pauline Kunze, DuQuoin and Mabel, Chicago and five grandchildren.
The body is at the JJ Moran & Sons Funeral Home.
