Curtis Sledge, Jr.

Curtis Sledge, Jr. was called home to be with our precious Lord on Feb. 8, 2008. Funeral services to honor his memory will be held 10 am Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Marcos Zuniga. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

He was born in Comanche, TX on March 5, 1937 and served in the US Army 1955 to 1958. He married JoAnn Sterling on August 17, 1959.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Ophelia Ashby and his father John Curt Sledge. His brothers: William Sledge, Richard Sledge, Marcel Sledge, Raymond Sledge and his sister: Betty Schuler also predeceased him.

He is survived by two sisters: Reba Daniels and Helen Murphy and her husband Bill. Curtis left behind his loving wife of 48 years, JoAnn Sledge, eight children, 22 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Listed from oldest to youngest they are: Bill Brown and wife Dede and their children, Cecilia and Natalie from Urbana, IL; Susan Jackson and husband Kenneth and their children Brian Lee, Shawn Curtis, Scotty Lynn, Cory Ray, Nicole Joyce, and Brandi Dee Ann from Coleman, TX; Debra Lavon Jenkins and husband Steve and their children Crissy Joann and Jason Everet from Burleson, TX; Tammie Louise Hughs and husband John Pat and their children Amanda Lee, Tori Lynn, and JD from Whiteface, TX; Curtis Dean Sledge and his daughter Tiffany from Burleson, TX; Sandra Kay Presby and husband Larry and their children Brittani Kay and Billy Randel from Burleson, TX; Kenneth Gerald Sledge and wife Johnette and their children Kendra Lee and Kenneth Gerald, Jr. from Odessa, TX; Johnny Curt Sledge and his children Kelsa Lee Ann, Jonna Christine, Jamie Carol, and Cassie Lee from Burleson, TX; and his great-grandchildren: Daniel Maxwell and Steven Michael.

Curtis is gone from our lives but not from our hearts. He will be missed by his family and many friends. He was a hard-working man and had his own business (Curt's Auto Repair). He loved his wrecker and being a mechanic. There was nothing he couldn't fix and if there wasn't a tool to fix it with – he made one. He loved making things, even building a tractor from the ground up. He always found a way to figure out how things worked. He was a very dedicated husband, Daddy, and Grandpa. He truly loved his wife and children. Curtis had a great sense of humor, loved to joke around with everyone, and brought so much love and laughter to his family and friends.

The Broken Chain

We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name,

In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you. You did not go alone.

For a part of us went with you the day God called you home.

You left us beautiful memories, your love is still our guide,

And though we cannot see you, you are always by our side.

Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same.

But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again
