R.G. 'Ray' Sledge, 71, of Mountain Home

R.G. 'Ray' Sledge of Mountain Home died Saturday (Feb 24, 2001) at his residence. He was 71.

He was born Aug. 9, 1919, at Winters, Texas to John Curtis and Ophelia Sledge. He married Hilda DeJonge on Dec 28, 1995, at Mountain. Home. He worked for 41 years as an aircraft electronics engineer for Beechcraft in Wichita, Kans. He was past Post Commander of the Wichita VFW and a member of the Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge of Wichita. He was a member and a deacon of the First Christian Church of Mountain Home. He was very active in the church. He was a World War II veteran. He enjoyed gardening, tinkering and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of the home; two sons, Raymond Gerald Sledge, Jr. and wife Dana of Valley Center, Kans. and Rex Alan Sledge and fiancee Linda Brinkman of Florence, Ken.; two step daughters, Trieneke Self and husband Bill of Bull Shoals and Della Scott and husband Lyle of Mountain Home; six grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 8 step grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Murphy and Reba Daniels of Texas; two brothers Marcell and Curtis Sledge, both of Texas; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Zora Sledge, brothers Arthur and Richard Sledge and one sister Elizabeth Shuler.

Funeral services will be 10AM Tuesday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Lee Nirschl officiating. Burial will be in Galatia Cemetery under the direction of Roller Funeral Home. A visitation will be noon to 9PM today at Roller Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6-8PM.
Pallbearers are Carl Dukes, Roger Obering, Joe Ament, Bill Reynolds, Virgil Fowles and Bon Remington. Honorary pallbearers are Floyd and Emma Lincoln,, Gerrit Gelder and Rita Ament.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks or First Christian Church.
