Martha's father died in 1874 when she was 19. After his death, Martha and her unmarried sisters, Sarah and Matilda, remained living at home with their widowed mother, until her death in 1881.
On September 29, 1881, a month after her mother's death, Martha married Jacob Solomon Crum. Jake was 19 and Martha was 26. Together they had nine children:

Martha also helped raise some of her grandchildren after the death of her daughter, Eva.
She died at home August 11, 1917 at the age of 62.

DEATH OF THE WIFE OF JACOB CRUM, AGED 65
Ill three weeks from flux, Mrs. Jacob Crum aged 65, died Sunday morning at the home near Stanford. She is quite well known in the west part of the county, having been born and raised west of the city, her maiden name being Martha Burch. A devout member of the Baptist Church, she was a loving wife and a faithful mother. A husband and eight children survive--Charles, Thomas, Rolla, and Dexter Crum of this county, and Mrs. Oliver Anderson, Mrs. Manson Mood, and Mrs. Earl Graves, also of this county, and Mrs. Roger Lingeman of Muncie. Funeral Monday at the residence and burial at Burch Cemetery.
