Fern C. Burke, 95, went to be with the Lord June 5, 2010, at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka. A time for family and friends to gather will be from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the 11 a.m. funeral service at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes. Pastor Jim Williams will officiate.
Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens, Aroma Township. Memorials may be made to the family wishes.
Mrs. Burke was a licensed practical nurse at Riverside Medical Center for 15 years and at Fulton County Hospital in Arkansas for six years. She was born Dec. 19, 1914, in Lake LaClede, the daughter of Charles A. and Iva C. Frye Chase. Her husband, Louie Northrop Burke, whom she married June 27, 1933, in Watseka, died in 1981. She was a member of the Aroma Park United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Sew and Sew Circle and the Rebecca Circle. She was also a member of the Aroma Park Fire Department Auxiliary and was a den mother for Cub Scouts. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting and playing cards, puzzles and music. She especially enjoyed children.
Fern is survived by her children, Robert (Gloria) Burke of Deland, Fla., Ronald (Phyllis) Burke of Martinton, Sondra Burke of Watseka, William (Janet) Burke of Martinton, Steven (Linda) Burke of Homer Glen; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Pauline Goldsby of Gilman.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Orville Richard, Harold Leon, Robert Edward and Donald Arthur; four sisters, Virginia, Mary, Betty and Hazel; and one grandson, Phillip Burke Chase.
