Donald Chase -- Kankakee

Visitation for Donald Arthur Chase, 86, of Kankakee, will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes, and from 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Asbury United Methodist Church, until the 10:30 a.m. services. The Rev. Steven Goodin will officiate.

Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens, Aroma Township. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kankakee American Legion Post 85 or to Asbury United Methodist Church, where he was a member. He died Sunday (March 2, 2008) at Riverside Medical Center.

Mr. Chase was a diesel mechanic for International Harvester and Preston Trucking, retiring in 1984. He was born Sept. 17, 1921, in Piper City, the son of Charles Arthur and Iva Cloe Frye Chase. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II in the European Theater of Operations. He was a member and past commander of Kankakee American Legion Post 85. He was a former member of the Kankakee Masonic Lodge 389, Ivanhoe Commandery 33, Kankakee Chapter 78, past commander of Owisco Council 108, Knights Templar and has the York Cross of Honor, Danville Consistory, 32nd Degree. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking.

Surviving are his wife, the former Kathryn Blissard, whom he married Feb. 10, 1944; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Deborah Chase of Festus, Mo., Thomas and Jane Chase of Bartlett; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Jon R. Whittaker of Winfield, Bonnie and Robert Rudolf of Kankakee; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Fern Burke of Aroma Park, Pauline Goldsby of Gilman; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased are three sisters, Hazel Fordyce, Mary Louise Harrison, Virginia Pree; and three brothers, Orville, Harold, and Robert Chase.
