Delphos Republican May 1, 1947
Emma Sleder, daughter of Matthew and Celia Sleder, was born in Klatov, Czechoslovakia, April 19, 1862, and passed away April 23, 1947, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Tom Bradbury, Minneapolis, Kansas, at the age of 85 years and 4 days.
When she was two years old, with her patents, came to this country and lived in Alleghany, Pa., for eight years and then came to Kansas and settled on a homestead six miles north of Ada.
On December 22, 1878, she was united in marriage to John Antene. Mrs. Antene leaves nine children to mourn her death: Celia Jones of Ada, Ella Bruce of Minneapolis, Sophia Svotapolsky of Clay Center, Edward Antene of Delphos, Violet Yager of Oklahoma City, Okla., Clara Chapman of Manhattan, Georgia Majors of Lawrence, Carl Antene of Keyes, Okla., and Leola Bradbury of Minneoapolis, twenty-three grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Lillie Kunc of Edmond, Okla., and Mr.s Anna Kunc of Ada, and on half-sister, Mrs. Joe Ziegler, two brothers, Matt Sleder of Bennington and Frank Sleder of Minneapolis. Her husband and three children, Frank, Rose and Victor, preceded her in death.
She was a wonderful mother, devoted to her family, patient and uncomplaining, always thinking of the comfort of others. Her kind and loving ways will always be remembered by all those who knew her. If I were asked to give a thought where in one word would speak The unity of brotherhood, and sympathy complete. A hundred happy, cheery ways the mind that knows its own. Contended midst a throng of fold, yet pleasant when alone. The heart that sheds it silent glow to brighten many another. Without a moment of delay,I'd say, "You mean my Mother."
