AMOS AMES DIES AFTER AN EXTENDED ILLNESS
Amos Ames, a resident of the town of Canton his entire life, passed at Hepburn Hospital, Ogdensburg, Saturday morning after an illness of several months. Funeral services were conducted Monday morning with a requiem mass at St. Mary's Church. Burial was made a St. Mary's Cemetery.
He was born on the Judson street road at what was long known as the Flynn Settlement on August 26, 1874, a son of Julius and Mary Ann Haggerty Ames. He attended the old Pierce Corners school. Early in life he married Miss Katherine Sullivan of Pyrites and they took up their life on the old Ames farm, where they continued to live until the death of Mrs. Ames several years ago. He later on removed to this village, where his home had been for several years. He was for a number of years engaged at the Rogers Coal plant on West street, retiring from this work some time ago. He had been retired for the past few years.
While a resident of this village he contracted a second marriage with Mrs. Nellie Lalone of this place, who survives him.
He leaves besides his widow, a sister, Mrs. Martha Ames Flynn, who recently celebrated her eighty-sixth anniversary and two brothers, Arthur D. Ames of Canton, and Sylvester B Ames of New York. He was a member of St. Mary's Chruch and Silas Wright Grange.
