MARTHA AMES FLYNN
At the 90th Milestone
Was born of early Canton Parents down Judson Street June 3, 1854
Mrs. Martha Ames Flynn, lifelong resident of the Judson Street Road and for many years, a resident of Judson Street, this village, celebrated her ninetieth birthday Saturday. Friends and relatives called and she talked with friends over the telephone and letters came from relatives and friends congratulating her at having arrived at four score and ten on a journey that was taken up down on the Judson street road, beyond the old Catholic Cemetery on June 3, 1854.
Mrs. Flynn, the widow of Daniel C Flynn, who passed away thirteen years ago, was the daughter of Julius and Mary A Haggarty Ames. Both the Ames and Haggarty names are old in the town of Potsdam and Canton. The Ameses date back to the early days of these towns. Her father's mother was a Pierce. Mabel Pierce, daughter of Howard Pierce, members of the Pierce family that was so numerous in the old days down the old State Road and the West Potsdam Road and Pierces filled the little school at Pierce's Corners, that in that day stood on the corner near what was later known at the Hardie Farm.
Martha A Flynn, as Martha Ames. was a member of quite a family of children, sons and daughters of Julius and Mary Haggarty Ames. And here it is interesting to know that her mother's parents were Patrick and Margaret Haggarty. The late William Haggarty of the Buck's Bridge section was her mother's brother.
