Emma was the tenth of sixteen children born to John and Jane England, and most likely named after Emma Smith.

She died just before her 9th birthday in 1857, from a combination of measles and pneumonia. She was the eighth of John and Jane's children to pass away.

She is buried in the cemetery at the Holy Trinity Church in Bradpole with eight of her siblings.
