David was born in 1840, the fifth child and second son of John and Jane England.

At the age of 9, young David came down with cholera. He died after a short two-day battle with the disease. His older brother, George, would also pass away five days later.

David is buried in the cemetery at the Holy Trinity Church in Bradpole with eight of his fourteen siblings.
