Shirley S. Scales Dies At Home Of Sister On Route 3
Shirley S. Scales, 50 year old Decatur county farmer, died at 5:20 p.m. Thursday at the home of his sister, Mrs. William Baxter, Rural Route Three. He had been visiting at his sister's home since Monday evening, and died from a heart attack. He had been in failing health several months, suffering from a chronic heart ailment. Mr. Scales owned a farm near Westport, where he had moved from Martinsville. He was born in this county on Apr. 17, 1895 and was the son of John and Sarah Fulford Scales. He was a member of the Christian church. Surviving him are the widow, Mrs. Anna Scales; three sons, Gilbert of Austin, Ind, and Morris Dale and Donald Lee Scales, at home; a daughter , Bonita Scales, at home; two brothers, Tom and Fred Scales, both of this county; a sister Mrs. William Baxter, Route Three, and two grandsons, Jerry and Jimmy Scales, Earl M. Baxter, county clerk, is a nephew. The body will remain at the home of Mrs. Baxter until the funeral services which will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Clear Creek church. Rev. Gordon Weekly of Sardinia, will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Clear Creek cemetery.
