Mary G. Herrman, 77, of Topeka, passed away at her home on May 22, 2010 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on May 20, 1933 in Catherine, KS, the youngest child of Ludwig Lewis and Julia Staab.

Mary attended St. Marys Academy in Wichita, KS where she was a drummer in the band and secretary of her class.

She married Patrick L. Herrman on June 21, 1950 at St. Josephs Church in Liebenthal, KS. They had three children: Jack D. Herrman, David A. Herrman, and Janet S. (Herrman) Carter.

Mary and Pat founded Herrmans Excavating, Inc. in Topeka in 1957.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick in 1992 and her oldest son, Jack in 1999.

Mary continued to work at the family-owned business through March of 2010. Miss Mary enjoyed camping with her husband, attending her grandchildrens numerous events, cheering on the Jayhawks, and occasional trips to the casinos. She was also an avid collector of angels. Now Heaven has collected our special angel.

Surviving members of Marys family include: a daughter, Jan Carter and her husband Tom of Lenexa; a son, Dave Herrman and his wife Marcia of Topeka; grandchildren, Katie Carter, Sean Carter, Megan Carter, Haley (Sean) Washatka, Kimberly (Justin) Farner, Matt Herrman, Greg Herrman, Jennifer (Larry) Amos, Angela Herrman, and Doug (Amanda) Herrman; great-grandchildren, Hudson Schnookie Washatka, Mack Sweet Pea Herrman, J.D. Amos, and Reagan Herrman; a sister, Viola Eggers, Ellinwood and a very special sister-in-law, Mary Ann Petrik, Rush Center.

The joy of her life was spending time with her loving grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka, KS 66614 where a rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Due to construction at 29th and Urish Road., please approach the funeral home from 21st and Urish Road. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5973 SW 25th St., Topeka. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
