ELLINWOOD — Viola Eggers, 82, died Oct. 10 at Ellinwood District Hospital. She was born Feb. 9, 1929 at Catherine, the daughter of Ludwig and Julia Leiker Staab. She has been a Barton County resident since 1943, formerly of Ellis County.
She married Willis Eugene (Gene) Eggers on Sept. 1, 1951 at Claflin. He died May 5, 1988. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Altar Society, Heritage Club, Canasta Club, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and RSVP volunteer.
She is survived by sons, Rick and wife Linda Eggers of Great Bend and Gordon and wife Pam Eggers of Ellinwood; daughter Julia and husband Bill Clemons of Ellinwood; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers Alex, Danny and Donald Staab and sister, Alvina Randal and Mary Herrman.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood with Father Charles Mazouch officiating. Calling time will be 1-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The altar society rosary will be at 3 p.m. Thursday and the vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, both at the funeral home. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Ellinwood Heritage Club or to St. Joseph Church in care of the funeral home.
