Donald L. Staab, 78, died Dec. 17 at Central Kansas Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 20, 1926, in Catherine, the son of Ludwig A. Staab and Julia (Leiker) Staab.

He married Marie “Peggy” Crane on Dec. 28, 1946, in Yuma, Ariz. She passed away May 17, 1977. He then married Mary L. Parr on Jan. 1, 1994, in Great Bend. She passed away Jan. 20, 2004.

He was a resident of Great Bend and was a heavy equipment operator. Staab was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3111 and American Legion Post 180. He was in the Army.

Survivors include one son, Mike Staab of Great Bend; three step-sons, Tim Parr of Great Bend, Randy Parr of Bixby, Okla., and Gary Parr of Great Bend; one daughter, Kathy Collicott of Great Bend; two sisters, Viola Eggers of Ellinwood, and Mary Herrman of Topeka; five grandchildren, Chris Collicott of Lawrence, Stacey Morgan of Enid, Okla., Jeffrey Staab of Emporia, Amanda Staab of Great Bend, and Jeremy Staab of Great Bend; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by spouse, Marie “Peggy” (Crane) on May 17, 1977; spouse, Mary L. (Parr) on Jan. 20, 2004; two brothers, Alex Staab and Daniel Staab; and one sister, Alvina Randa.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22, at St. Rose Catholic Church of Lima with Father Reginald Urban officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Great Bend City Cemetery in Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to Barton County Inter Faith or St. Rose Catholic Church of Lima, in care of Charter Funerals in Great Bend.
