Alice Emily "Alice M" (Lewis) McEntyre is the Daughter of Leonard Percival "L.P." Lewis, Sr. (Feb. 07, 1871 AL - Dec. 23, 1958 AL) and Alice Georgia McDonald Lewis (May 08, 1876 AL - May 25, 1942 AL).

Alice Emily "Alice M" Lewis was born at home, in Attalla, Etowah Co., AL on March 27, 1912. Her nickname is "Alice M", and the "M" is short for Emily.

She moved with her family to Columbia, Houston Co., AL in 1928 and she married Thaddeus "Thad" Pope McEntyre on Nov. 06, 1931 in Abbeville, Henry Co., AL. They had no Children by their marriage and there were no other marriages for Alice or Thad.

While Thad was in the Navy, Alice received her Life Insurance Agent's License (Dec. 01, 1942) for the State of FL. She worked for Independent Life & Accident Insurance Company in FL until 1943. When Thad was stationed in ILL, Alice worked for Bezark's Women's Wear Inc. in Evanston ILL.

Alice attended Brewster Vocational School in Tampa FL and completed: Basic Clothing II, Clothing II and Clothing III in 1948. Her photo appeared in "The Tampa Daily Times on Dec. 16, 1948 modeling her outfit she had made while attending classes at Brewster Vocational School. Alice worked and saved the money she earned while Thad was in the Navy which made their transition back to civilian life much easier.

Alice and Thad lived in Miami, Tampa and Jacksonville FL and while living in Miami FL, Alice taught at Drexel Private School in Miami Beach, FL. While living in Jacksonville, FL, Alice was the owner of AL-Mac Originals, a decorating Company.

Of all Alice's achievements, she was most proud of her Christian volunteer work. She taught Sunday School for 33 years and she organized and participated in a weekly volunteer program for teenage boys at the Duval County Juvenile Detention Center in Jacksonville, FL.

Alice was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dothan AL, where she had lived since 1981.

Alice had Nieces and Nephews down to the Great Great line who loved and adored her. She was an inspiration and a blessing in all of our lives.

DOTHAN. . .Alice Lewis McEntyre, a resident of The Terrace At Grove Park, Dothan, died early Monday morning, May 10, 2010, at her home. She was 98.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P. M. Wednesday, May 12, 2010, in the Columbia City Cemetery with Reverend Randall Johnson officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Columbia, P.O. Box 267, Columbia, AL. 36319.

Mrs. McEntyre was born in Attalla, Alabama and moved with her family to Columbia in 1928. Before moving to Dothan in 1981, she and her husband lived in Miami, Tampa and Jacksonville, Florida. Mrs. McEntyre taught at Drexel Private School in Miami Beach, Florida and had also been employed by Independent Life Insurance Company in Miami as an agent. She also formerly owned and operated Al-Mac Originals, a decorating company in Jacksonville, Florida. She served as a Sunday school teacher for thirty-three years. Mrs. McEntyre organized and participated in a weekly volunteer program for teenage boys at the Duval County Juvenile Detention Center in Jacksonville. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dothan. Mrs. McEntyre was preceded in death by her husband, Thad P. McEntyre, her parents, Leonard P. Lewis and Alice Georgia McDonald Lewis, two sisters and four brothers.

Surviving relatives include several nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Anne McEntyre Urban and husband, Al Urban, Columbia and Martha McEntyre, Dothan.

Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
