William E. Murphy, 76, Rt. 1, Akron, died early Wednesday in his sleep at his residence. He had been in failing health for 1 1/2 years. He was born March 7, 1912, near Kokomo in Howard County, to John B. and Catherine Hurlock Murphy. He resided in Akron for the past 49 years, coming from Wabash. He was married Jan. 26, 1935, in Macy, to Irene E. Linebrink She preceded in death in 1972. He was retired from the lurner and construction business.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Pauline) Sumpter, and Mrs. Richard (Peggy) Kelsheimer, Wabash; two sons, Paul, Akron and Phil, Wabash; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren six sisters, Mrs. Clesta "Short" (Alice) Tullis, Silver Lake; Mrs. Grover (Mildred) Brown, Leesville, La.; Mrs. Chester (Bondeline) Traver, Etna Green Mrs. Ethel Bishop, and Mrs. Bernard (Mary) Penn, North Webster, and Mrs. Marvin (Delores) Lawson, Wabash; three brothers, James, Lee and John E., all of Akron. He was preceded by a daughter, Phyllis Herbst, in 1985; an infant son, Dale; one sister, Dorothy Sopher, and two brothers, Charles and Laurence Murphy. -The Rochester Sentinel, September 8, 1988
