Mildred Irene Brown, 91, rural North Manchester, died at 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at Autumn Ridge Rehabilitation Center, Wabash.
She was born Feb. 11, 1917, in Peru, to Benjamin and Catherine (Hurlock) Murphy. Mildred married Grover M. Brown in Wabash on April 23, 1938, and he died June 26, 1999.
She worked 26 years for General Tire in Wabash and later worked for Civil Service in Rapid City, S.D. She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and LeFemmes (American Legion Organization). She and her husband lived at 1620 N. Miami St., Wabash, prior to moving to rural North Manchester.
She is survived by a daughter, Sally S. (William) Johnson, North Manchester; four grandchildren, Valerie K. (Scott) Goodnick, Glendale, Ariz., Cody D. (Holly) Drake, Aztec, N.M., Curtis G. (Jessica) Drake, Peoria, Ariz., and Eric C. (Peggy) Drake, Glendale, Ariz.; eight great-grandchildren, Daniel Goodnick, Joshua Goodnick and Jessica Goodnick, Glendale, Ariz., Randy Drake, Jeffrey Drake and Kalyn Drake, Lawton, Okla., and Connor M. Drake and Aubrianna Drake, Glendale, Ariz.; four great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Bonnie Traver, Warsaw, and Delores (Marvin) Lawson, Wabash. She was also preceded in death by seven brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash Chapel, 1241 Manchester Ave., on Monday, Sept. 22, at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at the funeral home. Preferred memorial is Wabash County Cancer Society.
