Mary Emma Brandenburg Covell was born on October 2, 1923 in Urbana a daughter of Charles Tyson and Carrie M. Plunkard Brandenburg and was the wife of Jonathan Forrest Covell for 39 years, whom predeceased her on Auguist 23, 1985.

Mary was a homemaker and devoted most of her life to her family, children and grandchildren. She enjoyed taking care of children, cooking, baking, sewing, quilting and crocheting.

She was a member of the Flint Hill United Methodist Church and attended Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.

Mary was well known for her red velvet cakes and kinklings, and her gardening and was especially proud of her dahlias.

She is survived by one daughter, L. Jean Rhinehart, and husband Ed, Urbana and two sons, Thomas "Tom" B. Covell and wife Marie (Iedje), Frederick and Jonathan W. "Jack" Covell and wife Donna, Clear Spring, six granddaughters, Lauri Rhinehart Beasley, Kelly Jo Woodard, Carrie Lynn DeLauter, Claudia (Mientje) Covell, Jennifer Voltaggio and Michelle Ziemer, nine great-grandchildren, Paige Covell, Derek DeLauter, Zachary, Jonathan and Emily Woodard; Gage and Burke Beasley, Elena Hocker and Thacher Voltaggio.

She is also survived by two brothers, Ira Brandenburg and wife, Peggy, Clarksburg and Norman Brandenburg and wife, Mary, Adamstown, and three sisters, Edythe Harshman and husband, Harold, Mount Airy, Gloria McFadyen, Urbana; Marth Norwood and husband Otis, Urbana and a number of nieces and nephews, friends and caregivers, Dawn Heller and Helen Burdette and was predeceased by two sisters, Betty Jane Brandenburg and Barbara Ann Payne and two brothers, Upton and Marshall Brandenburg.

Funeral held at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home with the Rev. George Tuggle, pastor of Flint Hill United Methodist Church, and Rev. Sandra L. Phillips of Wesley Chapel will officiate and casket bearers, grandsons-in-law, Keith Beasley, David Woodard, Scott DeLauter, Chris Hocker, Bryan Voltaggio, and Rhys Ziemer. Honorary bearers, great-grandsons, Zachary Woodard, Jonathan Woodard, Gage Beasley, Derek DeLauter and Thacher Voltaggio and interment made in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick by Keeney and Basford funeral directors.
