Ira proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked for most of his life as a carpenter. He was a member of the Hyattstown Volunteer Fire Company and held various positions. He had a great love for his entire family especially the grandchildren and his dog Angel. He enjoyed his vegetable garden, hunting and fishing.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Sharon White and husband Frank and Jeannie Fry and husband Rod, all of Frederick. He has four grandchildren, Joe Cooley and Heather, Ray Griffin and Steph, Jessica Dehn and John and Brian Griffin and Shannon. His great grandchildren are Logan, Jake and Liam. He is also survived by sisters, Gloria McFadden and Martha Norwood and sister-in-law, Marg Brandenburg; as well as many nieces, nephews and numerous friends and other relatives. He was preceded in death by siblings, Upton Brandenburg, Mary Covell, Edythe Harshman, Marshall Brandenburg, Betty Jane Brandenburg, Barbara Payne and Norman Brandenburg.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m., on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at the funeral home. Rev. Sandi Phillips, will officiate. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P. O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702 or to Hyattstown Volunteer Fire Company, 25801 Frederick Road, Clarksburg, MD 20871.
