Mrs. M G Ashby, Sr., Buried Here
Services for Mrs. M G Ashby, Sr., who died at her home after a long illness, were held at 10 am Thursday in the Van Vleet Methodist Church. The Rev. Inge M Halbert, pastor, the Rev. Robert F Clayman and Rev. John Evans conducted the services. Burial was in the Houston Cemetery with Harrison Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Ashby, who celebrated her 82nd birthday Sunday, had lived in Van Vleet 63 years. She suffered a stroke on Wednesday of last week and had been in a semi-conscious condition since that time. About 20 years ago she was injured in a fall which left her a partial invalid. She was dedicated to all members of her family and was loved and admired by a wide circle of loved ones.
The former Miss Sallie Sleigh, she was born and reared in Calhoun County. She was a member of the Van Vleet Baptist Church.
She leaves her husband, M G Ashby, Sr.; a daughter, Mrs. Kate Woods of Starkville; three sons, M G Ashby, Jr., of Houston, Robert S Ashby and Gus Ashby of Van Vleet; two sisters, Mrs. W W Terry of Houston and Mrs. Minnie Young of Decatur, Ga.; four half sisters, Mrs. Frank Byars of Washington, Mrs. Nora Uearson of Florida, Mrs. Guy Thompson and Mrs. Robert Gage of West Point; three half brothers, T S Sleigh of Dallas, J S Sleigh of West Point and H S Sleigh of Yazoo City.
