Robert Stephen Ashby, 78, of Van Vleet was buried Sunday, June 18 at Houston Cemetery following 2 pm services at Houston Funeral Home. Mr. Ashby died at 7 pm, Friday, June 16 at his home. The Rev. Mike Cornelius and Howard Hathorn officiated.
Mr. Ashby, a retired deep water well contractor, was a member of the Van Vleet United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his widow Juanita Haney Ashby, a sister, Mrs. Kate Woods of Starkville, and a brother, Gus Ashby of Van Vleet.
Pallbearers included Earl Colbert, Tommy Carter, Jimmy Lee Lancaster, Wayne Park, Charles Joseph, Steve Carter, Keith Thomas, and George Jolly.
Mr. Ashby was a Mason Shriner and a member of Lodge No. 67.
He was the son of M G Ashby, Sr. and Sallie Sligh.
