Andreas Heinrich and Anna Clara with their two-year-old son, Adolph, emigrated from Germany onboard "Neckar" to Castle Gardens, Port of New York, December 14, 1885. Also, Friederike, a younger sister of Heinrich, was a passenger on the boat. The manifest for the boat shows the group of four only had 5 pieces of luggage for the trip! The steam ship "Neckar" with a service speed of 13.5 knots, made its maiden voyage in 1874 from Bremen to New York. Neckar carried 144 first class passengers, 68 second class, and 502 in steerage. The type of passage is not known for Heinrich and family. In New York they apparently took a boat around to the port of Galveston and then to Indianola, Texas, and arrived in Maxwell, Caldwell County, Texas in June 1887.
Henry became a prosperous farmer. He was first found on the 1888 Tax list for Caldwell County. After their arrival in America, four children were born to the couple. An Infant was born December 16, 1893. Both Mother Anna Clara, and the infant died the same day.
Heinrich married Caroline Lydia Hahn April 15, 1895 in Yorktown, DeWitt County, Texas, daughter of Johann Hahn and Ernestine Spellman. Eleven children were born to the couple. Heinrich wrote a declaration in 1910 of persons in his household, found in the courthouse of Lockhart
Heinrich Andreas applied for and received Naturalization March 25, 1912 in Comal County, Texas #233532, volume 9182, and page 7, the year American Citizenship became mandatory.
.
Of the 16 children born to Heinrich Andreas, 13 lived to adulthood, unusual for those days! "Henry" appeared in the Texas Census in 1920 with Lydia, and as a widower in the 1930 Caldwell County Census. Henry died May 22, 1944 in the Memorial Hospital, Hays County, Texas. Anna Clara, Caroline Lydia, and Heinrich Andreas, are buried in Ebenezer Lutheran Church Cemetery, Maxwell.
