Emma, fourteenth child of Christian and Dorothea Schulle, was born in Prussia; As last born of the large family, Emma was only three years of age when her first nephew was born. She was very young when the family emigrated from Germany, arriving in America after an ocean voyage of six weeks.

Her first marriage was to John Koltermann, December 27, 1900 in Maxwell,Texas. .John and Emma had one child Johann Otto born December 6, 1901 and died March 30, 1902. A record of the death of John was found in 1903 Church Records.

Emma Schulle Koltermann married William Nolte August 31, 1906. William bought farmland outside of Lockhart, Texas and built their home. Work done on the farm was hard; the working day started at daylight and about 9 A.M. Emma would bring hot bread, butter and sausage to the workers in the field. At noon, food was served and again about 3 P.M. the workers were rewarded with more food in the field. Emma spent a lot of time in the kitchen! A grandson tells of the making of lye soap with fat from the hogs; and still to this day declares that lye soap will clean anything!

William brought two sons, Otto Adolph and Edwin Walther, from a previous marriage, to this marriage. Seven Children were born to William and Emma.Schulle: Hilbert Christian 1907-1989; Hugo Frederick 1908-1982; Viola 1910-1910; William Gus 1911-1976; Hilmer Herman 1914-1915; Selma Alma 1916-2000; and Martin 1919-1969.
