JACOB DIVELY DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS
Funeral Services Saturday Afternoon for Long-Time Otoe County Resident
Jacob Dively, 79, prominent farmer in the Hopewell community for many years, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, in the Brown hospital at Nebraska City following an illness of several months. Death was attributed to heart trouble and complications.
Mr. Dively was born at Pavia, Pa., July 28, 1869, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Dively. He came to Nebraska with his parents in early childhood and settled in the Hopewell community, where he spent the remainder of his life.
He never married and lived part of the time with a brother, Calvin, and a sister, Mary, until their deaths. He spent three years at Douglas with his brother, Harry, and remaining three and a half years with his niece, Mrs. John Flessner, Jr.
Mr. Dively was in good health until July. He entered the hospital in September and made short stays there, always returning home in better health. Two weeks ago he returned to the hospital and underwent surgery on Tuesday.
He is survived by a brother, Harry, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Harry Dively, Syracuse; two nieces, Mrs. John Flessner, Jr., and Mrs. Walter Vohs, both of Burr, and two nephews, Darrell Dively, Douglas and Clarence Dively, Burr, besides other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Hopewell church with Rev. Donald Proett in charge. A quartet composed of Mrs. Earl Wendeln, Mrs. Art Maller, Paul Heather and Allen Roberts accompanied by Mrs. Roberts, sang "Going Down the Valley", "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "Abide With Me."
Burial was in Hopewell cemetery. Pallbearers were Carl Fisk, Roy Brugman, John Wendeln, Louis Wendeln, WM. Warnke and Wm. Wendeln.
