JOHN W. NORRIS

John W. Norris, 71, R.R.10, Greensburg, died this morning at 1:40 at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital. He had been in failing health for the past few months.

Mr. Norris was born March 6, 1905, in Tiney(Piney) Flats, Tennessee and his parents were Elbert and Laura (Gray) Norris. He was married Dec. 24, 1923 in Decatur County to Helen Ramer and she survives.

Mr. Norris was retired from Cummins Engine Company where he was employed over 25 years as a machinist. he had lived in the Burney community most of his life and in Greensburg the past eight years. He was a member of the Burney Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Norris is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Paul (Sara) Hime, Burney, Mrs. Leon (Jane) Stephens, Mills, Wyo., and Mrs. Robert (Nancy) Owens, R.R.2, Columbus; one son, William Earl Norris, Galveston; one brother, Laymon Norris, Middletown; two sisters, Julia Bennett, Tennessee, and Mrs. Ora (Jamie) Miller, Shelbyville; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Andrew, Hubert and Edward Norris, and two sisters, Dora Norris and Gertrude Foster.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home with the Rev. James Austin, pastor of the Westport Methodist Church, officiating, and burial will be in the Milford Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday.

The family requests that memorials be in the form of contributions to the Decatur County Cancer Fund.
