Sarah B. Glaze, 90, of Sweetwater, died Wednesday, April 14, 2010.
She was born in China Grove, Ala., and was a member of Browder Memorial Methodist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of Sweetwater VFW 5156. She served as district president of VFW and state secretary, and was a volunteer at Sweetwater Hospital. She and her husband founded the County Line Browder Memorial Perpetual Cemetery Fund and did custodian care until his death. She was an avid quilter and did community service.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Carl Dean Glaze and S.L. Glaze; one son, Jackson J. Glaze; her parents, Daniel and Annie Burks; five brothers, Amos, F.B., Turner, James and Curtis Burks; and three sisters, Alma English, Josephine Turner and Mildred Burks.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Rita and Jerry Richesin and Brenda and Paul Lingerfelt; one daughter-in-law, Cindy Glaze; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Vernon Burks of Arizona, and Albert Burks of Texas; and one sister, Louise McKee of Florida.
The body is at Sweetwater Memory Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Doug Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in West View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the East Tennessee Children's Hospital Development Office, 2018 Clinch Ave., Knoxville, TN 37916; or to the China Grove Cemetery Trust Fund, c/o Troy Bank and Trust, P.O. Box 967 Troy, AL 36081.
