Died: Tuesday, April 13, 2010, in Big Spring, Texas
Zelda Gamel Day, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at her residence. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at Mt. Olive Memorial Park, with Chaplain Cherise Felty, officiating.
She was born on December 11, 1919, in Milam County, Texas and was the sixth of eleven children born to Thomas W. and Leathy Evans Gamel. She married Boyd D. Day in 1936 and they moved to the Knott Community in Howard County in 1937, where they engaged in farming for many years. Zelda and Boyd moved to Big Spring in 1967. Zelda was a long time member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
After the passing of her husband, Boyd in 1982, Zelda resided in Big Spring until 2007, when her ill health prompted a move back to Knott, into the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Woodie Long, who saw to her every need, until her passing.
She was a kind, generous, and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be dearly missed by her family, who will always remember her for her sweet spirit, kind heart and her ability to always see the positive side of life.
Zelda is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Woodie Long of Knott; grandchildren, David Long and wife, Jannelle of Shallowater, Jana Long of Big Spring, Ronnie Long and wife, Robin of Midland; and four great grandchildren, Heather Long Moxley and husband, Dale Moxley of Bryan, Zachary Long of Shallowater, Rachel Long and Olivia Long of Midland. She is also survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Sue Day of Gardendale, their three children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, seven brothers and three sisters.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the donor's favorite charity.
Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring. Online condolences can be made at: www.npwelch.com
