A native of Buncombe County, Louise was daughter of the late John Henry and Estelle Searcy Merrell. She was wife of the late William (Bill) Lyda who died in 1992; they were married for 49 years. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Martha Jean Lyda and infant twin sons William and Walter Lyda, six sisters, Willie, Eleanor, Hazel, Barbara, Gerry and Judy and five brothers,
Ellard, Ken, Jay, Woodfin and Larry. Louise was a graduate of Fairview High School and retired in 1986 from the Eaton Corporation as a parts assembler. She was a lifetime member of Bethany United Methodist Church.
Surviving is a daughter, Susan Lyda Knox of Fletcher, two sisters, Frieda Lytle of Fairview and Pat Stoll of Asheville, one brother, Richard Merrell of Fairview, a number of nieces and nephews and a number of great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 8, 2010 in the chapel of
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with the Rev. Johnny Clements, Mr. Martin Lytle and Rev. Robert Jaeger officiating. Burial will be at Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2-3 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
