Eleanor Carver

Marion - Eleanor Merrell Carver, 68, of 18 W. Court St., died Monday in a Baltimore, Md., hospital.

A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late John Henry and Freddie Estelle Searcy Merrell. She was a member of Marion First Presbyterian Church and was a co-owner of Old World Pizza.

Surviving are a son, James E. Carver of Marion; three brothers, J. H., Woodfin and Richard Merrell, all of Asheville; eight sisters, Barbara Smith and Judy Kilpatrick of Charlotte, Willie Penland, Louise Lyda, Geraldine Duncan, Hazel Merrell, Pat Stoll and Freda Lytle, all of Asheville; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of McCall-Kirksey Funeral Home. The Revs. George Hutchins and Douglas Worley will officiate. Burial will be in Bethany United Methodist Church cemetery, Fletcher.

The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
