Mary Ellen (Bogard) was born at Central Station, then Tyler Co., (W.) Virginia, a daughter of John R. and Eliza (Shinn) Bogard of Arnold's Creek, Tyler/Doddridge Co., WV. The area where she was born became part of Doddridge Co., (W) Virginia, in Feb 1845, and here she grew to womanhood.
She married Henry Hezekiah Hiley in Greene Co., PA, in 1862, and they lived on Arnold's Creek near Central Station, Doddridge Co., W. Va.
She was blind for many years of her later life.
She died in February 1910, and is buried in the Pigott Cemetery near Central Station, Doddridge Co., W. Va. Her husband was later buried by her side.
